D.C. Soccer Initiative Shines

First there were 10…then there were 20! That’s what all the buzz was about this past Monday during a celebration at Johnson Middle School honoring 20 new mini-pitches at schools across the nation’s capital through the D.C. Soccer Initiative.

Back in 2021, founding partners at the A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation, MLS Players Association, Target, and U.S. Soccer Foundation came together to install 10 mini-pitches.

In 2023, strategic partners D.C. United, D.C. United Foundation, and Washington Spirit joined The Clark Foundation and U.S. Soccer Foundation to complete another 10 mini-pitches.

During the event, students were able to kick around with Washington Spirit athletes, hone their skills with D.C. United’s performance coach, test their accuracy on the soccer darts inflatable, and enjoy food from DC’s Timber Pizza.
