Girls Empowerment Day – Game On, Girls!

The Foundation hit the field at Dignity Health Sports Park to take part in the YMCA of Los Angeles’ fourth annual Girls Empowerment Day.

More than 4,000 girls in grades 6-12 came together for a day full of sports, inspiration, and empowerment. We were proud to support the event in multiple ways. Foundation team member Danielle Valente spoke to the crowd, sharing how sports have shaped her life and encouraged girls to find strength in being themselves. We also ran soccer activities on three mini-pitches throughout the day.

Many girls tried soccer for the first time as they played short Just Ball-style matches. While some girls practiced new skills, some struck up conversations with our team, and others jumped into play.

From trying new things to forming new friendships, the day was all about showing girls that there’s room for everyone in sports no matter your background, skill level, or experience.
