Chairperson Emeritus
Cully Stimson is the Manager of the National Security Law Program and a Senior Legal Fellow at The Heritage Foundation, a Washington DC based think tank. He is a nationally-recognized expert in national security, homeland security, and crime control and public policy. Prior to joining Heritage in 2007, Cully served as a deputy assistant secretary of defense, an Assistant United States Attorney, and as a Vice President at Marsh McLennan, a Fortune 500 company, among other jobs.
Cully played on the Men’s Varsity Soccer at Kenyon College, where he was named to the All-Conference Team, and was selected as the team Captain his senior year. He has extensive coaching and playing experience, including coaching fellow Board Member Juergen Sommer during Juergen’s senior year of high school.
As a decorated twenty-three veteran of the United States Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG), Cully holds the rank of Captain and has held a variety of legal posts including as a military judge, as a joint special operations task force JAG, an instructor, a prosecutor and defense counsel, and many others.
He received his J.D. from the George Mason University School of Law in 1992, where he was on the Moot Court team, and has studied at Harvard and Exeter University in England.
He has served as the President of the Alumni Association of Saint James School, his high school, and is currently the Vice Chairman of the Board of the C.D. Stimson Company, his family real estate company located in Seattle, Washington.
