Urban Soccer Diploma

What is the Urban Soccer Diploma?

(History/Why was it developed?) The Urban Soccer Diploma is a unique collaboration between United Soccer Coaches and the U.S. Soccer Foundation, the national leader in sports-based youth development, to provide tools to coaches working in non-traditional soccer settings.

What will I learn?

Throughout the course, coaches split their time between interactive field sessions and classroom learning. The sessions include “Understanding the Youth We Serve,” Designing and Implementing Lessons in an Urban Setting,” and “Best Practices in Youth Development.” These sessions teach coaches how to best engage urban youth and youth living in underserved communities through soccer.

Why are these skills important?

Is the Urban Soccer Diploma for me?

Not every soccer play space features freshly cut grass. If you work in an underserved community, in a place where soccer equipment and play space is not widely available, consider yourself a community leader in the sports-based youth development field, or are in the nonprofit space and want to learn best practices for coaching soccer in a non-traditional setting, this course is for you.

How do I sign up?

The Urban Soccer Diploma is offered annually at the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s Urban Soccer Symposium, held in the spring. Please check back for more updates, sign up to receive the Foundation’s monthly newsletter, and follow us on social media to receive updates about the 2019 Urban Soccer Symposium. For the first time, the Diploma will also be hosted at the 2019 United Soccer Coaches Convention in Chicago, IL from January 9-13. Visit their website to learn how you can register to attend.
