New York City Soccer Initiative

In the first major public-private partnership of its kind in the United States, we joined forces with adidasthe Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York CityNew York City Football Club, and Etihad Airways to create and maintain 50 new Safe Places to Play mini-pitches in underserved neighborhoods across the five boroughs over five years.

To date, we have created 37 mini-pitches across the city. All 50 mini-pitches will be completed by the end of 2021.

These New York City Soccer Initiative pitches are used to expand free soccer programming for thousands of New York City youth through our Soccer for Success program and through NYCFC and City in the Community Foundation programs for public school children. The first-of-its-kind, transformative public-private partnership brings significant resources to the city and is creating access to safe places to play for children throughout the five boroughs.

We are proud that the New York City Soccer Initiative has helped spark a national movement in building pitches in urban communities throughout the U.S.
