    Leighton Welch, President of Welch Capital Partners, Gives Significant Gift for Soccer Field-Building Initiative in Boston

    December 4, 2013 Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Soccer Foundation announced today that, Leighton Welch, President of Welch Capital Partners and U.S. Soccer Foundation Board of Directors member has provided a generous donation to the Foundation. The donation will support the creation of a synthetic turf soccer field at LoPresti Park in Boston, Massachusetts. Welch’s donation, which is being matched by the U.S. Soccer Foundation, will help to provide 100% of the funds necessary to build the field.

    U.S. Soccer Foundation Awarded $100K Grant from the Safeway Foundation

    Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Soccer Foundation, the major charitable arm of soccer in the United States, and the Safeway Foundation are working together to provide free nutrition education and physical activity programming to children in the metro Denver and Seattle communities. The Safeway Foundation has awarded the U.S. Soccer Foundation with a $100,000 grant to enhance the efforts of the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s Soccer for Success program, a free afterschool program that uses soccer as a tool to combat childhood obesity and improve the well-being of children in underserved communities. This is the first time that the Safeway Foundation has provided grant funding in the area of childhood obesity prevention.

    U.S. Soccer Foundation Kicks Off Fall Season of Soccer for Success in 25 Cities Nationwide

    Washington, D.C. October 15, 2013 – The U.S. Soccer Foundation, the major charitable arm of soccer in the United States, has launched its fall season of Soccer for Success. Through a network of 27 community- based partners and organizations, the program will serve approximately 18,000 children during the 2013-2014 program year.

    U.S. Soccer Foundation Receives Additional $2.6 Million Social Innovation Fund Award

    Washington, D.C., September 26, 2013 –The Corporation for National and Community Service announced today that the U.S. Soccer Foundation, the Major Charitable Arm of Soccer in the United States, will be awarded $2.6 million in continuation funding over two years under its Social Innovation Fund (SIF), bringing the Foundation’s total multi-year award amount to $4.6 million. The Foundation, which first received a SIF award in 2011, will use the additional funding to support the expansion and replication of its Soccer for Success program.

    U.S. Soccer Foundation and POLITICO Team Up for First Annual Capital Soccer Classic

    Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Soccer Foundation, the major charitable arm of soccer in the United States, and POLITICO, the country’s dominant political news source, announced today their partnership for the inaugural Capital Soccer Classic to be held in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, April 24, 2013. The premier soccer event, presented by Johnson & Johnson, will include a youth clinic as well as a series of games featuring members of Congress, including the bipartisan Congressional Soccer Caucus; other government officials; media celebrities; and former U.S. Soccer players, including John Harkes, Cobi Jones, Eddie Pope, Claudio Reyna and Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak.

    More than 16,000 Children Across 21 States and the District of Columbia Benefit from U.S. Soccer Foundation Grant Funding

    Washington, D.C., January 28, 2013 – The U.S. Soccer Foundation, the major charitable arm of soccer in the United States, announced that it has awarded 48 grants totaling more than $2.4 million to non-profit organizations serving youth in underserved areas across 21 states and the District of Columbia. The Foundation strives to assist and grow the sport of soccer, as well as improve the well-being of children in under-resourced communities, by awarding grants to support all aspects of the game. Specifically, non-profit organizations that provide children with the opportunity to play soccer and live a healthy lifestyle are awarded grants to support their programming and field-building initiatives.
