MTV Tr3s will join the World Cup fever by airing “ROCK N’ GOL” – a celebrity soccer game featuring leading Latino entertainers and renowned soccer players on June 3rd at 9:00 pm (EST). Four different teams comprised of celebrities including Michelle Rodriguez, Akon, Pitbull, Jess Garcia, Carlos Mencia, David Bisbal, Walter Perez, Debi Nova, and Jenni Rivera were teamed up with soccer stars Marcelo Balboa, Brandi Chastain, Tony Meola, and Tab Ramos for a two hour competition that blended traditional soccer into a 4×4 tournament.
In keeping with MTV Tr3s’ continued commitment of partnering with socially responsible initiatives that benefit the Latino community, the U.S. Soccer Foundation was named the Official Charity of “ROCK N’ GOL.” Throughout the broadcast, host Carlos Mencia emphasizes the importance of expanding grassroots soccer initiatives among Latino communities. The broadcast will spotlight the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s commitment to increasing opportunities for youth across the U.S.
The message and efforts of the U.S. Soccer Foundation will be viewed by MTV Tr3s’ audience of 45 million total TV households. 7.3 million Hispanic households watch MTV Tr3s, making it the most-widely distributed TV network dedicated to serving today’s bicultural Latino youth.
Taping of “ROCK N’ GOL” began on March 31st at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles, CA and was open to the public. In addition to the actual competition the event featured a surprise musical performance and soccer challenges like a Penalty Kick Shootout, The Human Fútbol Race, Foosball, and a soccer dunk tank. In addition to the June 3rd premier, “ROCK N’ GOL” will also be broadcasted on MTV2.
