January 14 – 15, 2012 proved to be a busy weekend for the Foundation as over 85,000 people poured into the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. for the 2012 NBC4 Health and Fitness Expo. For the duration of the Expo, the Foundation teamed up with D.C. United Women to run continuous 4 vs. 4 soccer games for children who were in attendance. Aside from providing children with fun physical activity and exposing them to the benefits of soccer, the Foundation sought to spread the message of using soccer as a tool in the fight against childhood obesity.
While children played soccer, parents entered a raffle to win a MLS jersey and two tickets to a D.C. United game during the 2012 regular season. Children also participated in arts and crafts and creatively showed the Foundation their love for the game. Members from D.C. United Women were on-site to interact with the children and participate in a meet-and-great for all attendees.
Big thank you to the families who stopped by the mini-pitch at the 2012 NBC4 Health and Fitness Expo– it was a great weekend! For more information about the 2012 NBC4 Health and Fitness Expo, as well as the work of the Foundation, click here.
