Soccer for Success is back! The beginning of a new soccer season is always cause for celebration, and this year thousands of kids in more than 30 cities across the country are dusting off their cleats for another season of fun afterschool programming.
The City of Spartanburg Parks and Recreation Department is one of our 8 new partners, kicking off their inagural Soccer for Success season this fall. On a recent Saturday, I had the privilege of joining the staff in Spartanburg for a day of pre-season training to help provide new coach-mentors with the necessary tools to get the program up and running.
During the training, I was in awe of the passion that these individuals have for their community. Many of them are Spartanburg natives who are giving back to their hometown and helping to shape the younger generation into an active, motivated group of young people. As the training progressed, I watched the group come together. What started out as a collection of people with a common task and a shared 8AM wakeup call turned into a true team with a united mission. They were believers – joining the movement to use soccer as a vehicle for social change.
Back in Washington, D.C., I can’t help but be excited about the positive impact Soccer for Success is having on youth nationwide. We are continuing to reach more children in more cities, and this is only the beginning.
Welcome to the family, Spartanburg! We can’t wait to see the positive impact that Soccer for Success will have in your community.
