Beyond the awesome speakers, insightful trainings, and productive workshops, my favorite qualities of U.S. Soccer Foundation’s Urban Soccer Symposium are the camaraderie, momentum, and motivation among participants towards a common belief – that soccer can be used for social good. There are so many inspiring individuals scattered throughout the country that are putting in hard work to ensure that the children in their programs are getting positive experiences through the game of soccer. So often, we as programmers are isolated, and are justifiably focused on only the children and communities we serve; what we fail to realize is that we are not alone, but part of a community striving to make the same impact. The Urban Soccer Symposium is the one opportunity of the year where we can come together and celebrate our individual programs, connect with our peers, and advocate for this important cause. This will be my fifth Urban Soccer Symposium, and I have seen this event, and the soccer for social good community grow hand in hand. I look forward to playing my part in this movement, and hosting speakers, presenters, and participants at this incredible event!
