This week, I had the privilege of being a part of the opening of the new futsal court at the John H. Jackson Community Center in Orlando, Florida. Made possible through the hard work and cooperation of Orlando City Soccer Club, MLS WORKS, the Orlando Community & Youth Trust, and the U.S. Soccer Foundation, this beautiful purple play space is the city’s newest safe place to play. Enjoy, Orlando!
The calm before the storm: pre-opening, before the arrival of community leaders and local schoolchildren. The court awaits!
Instead of a traditional ribbon cutting, this opening featured a ceremonial “first kick.” This banner soon came crashing down amidst a flurry of soccer balls, kicked by the kids in attendance.
Looking great in new uniforms, these local elementary school students anxiously awaited their chance to get on the new court!
Soccer balls everywhere! After the ceremonial “first kick” with Orlando City midfielder Brek Shea, the court was officially declared open for play!
A new play space and new friends. Thanks for the great event, everyone!
