“And that is why I stayed. Because hope and love and rejoicing and redemption can happen to kids like them. And people like me…..who can soften life’s blows for them, ought to help.”
Former ESPN producer Lisa Fenn penned these words earlier this week, in a heart-lifting story about two young men from inner city Cleveland, and the efforts Ms. Fenn took to help them achieve their dreams. One legally blind and one confined to a wheelchair after a brutal train accident, the two best friends became close as they both found salvation in their high school wrestling team. Now, four years after their story made the airwaves in 2009, ESPN followed up with the two young men and Ms. Fenn, who they call their “guardian angel.”
Their story is a can’t miss piece about supporting the physical and personal development of children in urban and underserved communities through sports. Just as Ms. Fenn has dedicated her time to supporting Dartanyon Crockett and Leroy Sutton, so has the Foundation been able to touch the lives of more children in underserved communities by using soccer as a conduit for better living. Please take some time and watch how just one person can make a difference in the lives of youth.
