On May 4th, the U.S. Soccer Foundation joined the MLS Players Union, DC SCORES, D.C. Public Schools, and the office of D.C. Councilmember Charles Allen at Jefferson Academy to celebrate the unveiling of a new state-of-the-art mini-pitch.
The field opening kicked off with remarks from Foundation President & CEO, Ed Foster-Simeon; Eddie Pope, Director of Player Relations for MLS Players Union; Jefferson Academy’s Principal Natalie Gordon; D.C. Public Schools’ Director of Health and PE, Miriam Kenyon; and Laura Marks, Chief of Staff for D.C. Councilmember Charles Allen. D.C. United player, Bobby Boswell also joined Jefferson Academy students in taking the field for their first game!
DC SCORES will hold programming on this new space for D.C. Public School students. DC SCORES also partners with the Foundation to provide the Soccer for Success program to area youth. The field’s lighting was generously provided by Musco Lighting. Additional support for this mini-pitch was provided by the D.C. Mayor’s Office.
The U.S. Soccer Foundation is committed to developing new safe play places to ensure more kids have access where they can learn, play, and grow. Help us grow the game.
