Change Starts with You!
Are you attending the 2017 Urban Soccer Symposium? If so, as leaders in your community, it is important to talk with your Members of Congress about how you and your organization leverage the sport of soccer to tackle important issues facing youth in your community. To encourage these conversations, we are asking that you join fellow youth development organizations on Capitol Hill for the Urban Soccer Symposium’s Hill Day.
What’s New This Year?
Meetings: Lasting change begins at the local level. This year, to encourage the continual growth of your relationships with your elected officials, we are transitioning the annual Hill Day to take on a grassroots approach. We are empowering our Urban Soccer Symposium Hill Day attendees to schedule meetings with Members of Congress who oversee districts where your life-changing work occurs. By focusing on individual meetings rather than state-wide groups, organizations will be able to advocate for themselves and create impactful relationships with their Members of Congress.
Tool Kits: The U.S. Soccer Foundation will provide organizations with tool kits that will guide you through planning and meeting with your local officials. These tool kits will help you educate your elected officials about how you have leveraged the sport to positively transform your community. In addition, the U.S. Soccer Foundation will host a webinar leading up to the Symposium discussing best practices for meeting with Congressional leaders. Follow this link to access the took kit.
Virtual Hill Day: Together throughout the Symposium, including Hill Day, we will bring awareness to our elected officials (local, state and federal) about the impact that we as the sports-based youth development community are making across the country. The Foundation will provide information on how we will work together to spread this message by taking over social media.
