Statement From Ed Foster-Simeon, President & CEO of the U.S. Soccer Foundation On the USSF’s Recent Legal Filing
Washington, DC (March 12, 2020) – Today, Ed Foster-Simeon, President & CEO of the U.S. Soccer Foundation, released the following statement:
“As President & CEO of the U.S. Soccer Foundation, a charitable organization committed to growing the game in underserved communities for more than 25 years, I was profoundly disappointed by the arguments made by the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) in its most recent legal filing against equal pay for men and women.
It is deeply disturbing that the USSF, the national governing body of the game, would send any message whatsoever to make young girls think that they cannot be equal in every way to the boys who also share their love of soccer. We’ve always supported past and present members of the Women’s National Team, and they’ve supported our mission and work. Today, as always, we stand with them in their fight for equity and equality.
The USSF’s recent legal filings run counter to everything the U.S. Soccer Foundation believes about the game as a universal force for good.
Our Soccer for Success program provides access and opportunity to tens of thousands of girls in underserved communities across the country. Their participation in the game and the support of their coach-mentors give them hope for the future on and off the field.”
