2012 Soccer For Success National Coaches Training Recap

The U.S. Soccer Foundation hosted the inaugural 2012 Soccer for Success National Coaches Training at the Georgetown University Hotel & Conference Center in Washington, D.C. on July 27th through 29th. The event was an opportunity for coaches and program administrators from across the nation to learn the 2012-2013 Soccer for Success curriculum in order to properly execute the program for the children in their respective communities. Weekend sessions included on-field training, speakers, and workshops covering topics ranging from youth development to nutrition.

Day 1 

Over 160 representatives of organizations from Buffalo to Los Angeles were in attendance, including coaches from United for D.C., the charitable arm of D.C. United, and America SCORES. Other distinguished guests at the National Training included Ed Foster-Simeon, President & CEO of the U.S. Soccer Foundation, Monica Gonzalez, former Mexican Women’s National Team player and current ESPN analyst, and Britt McHenry, sports reporter and anchor for ABC7/WJLA.

Mykol Lewis, of Brotherhood Crusade in South Los Angeles, said, “We truly appreciate being here. We feel like this is important, especially for our staff. Our coaches come from our community and so it’s really vital that we’re able to address their needs.” In addition to the lively discussion and educational sessions, attendees also enjoyed networking opportunities, including an outing to the D.C. United vs. Paris Saint-Germain friendly, and some friendly soccer competition of their own.
