David SutphenSecretary

David Sutphen is Managing Partner of Brunswick's Washington, DC office and plays a leading role in advising corporations on strategic communications, public affairs, and reputational matters, with a particular focus on the technology, media and telecommunications sectors. With over fifteen years of experience in government and private industry, David has a proven history of helping companies achieve their business priorities and build partnerships that further their public policy goals and social responsibility missions. In addition to his work with Brunswick, Sutphen serves as a board member of Business Forward, GetSchooled, and the U.S. Soccer Foundation.  

Prior to joining Brunswick, David was a Senior Vice President at Viacom, the parent company of MTV Networks, BET Networks, and Paramount Pictures. While at Viacom, he was a leading advisor to senior corporate and divisional executives on strategic, policy, political, and corporate responsibility matters. He also served on the board of the Copyright Alliance, as co-chair of the Viacom Corporate Responsibility Council, and played an instrumental role in helping develop and launch "GetSchooled", an education-focused, strategic collaboration between Viacom and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.  

David is a graduate of The University of Michigan Law School -- where he was a member of the Editorial Board of The Law Review -- and an honors graduate of Amherst College.  

In 2010, Sutphen was chosen by TheRoot.com as one of its "Root 100" -- a group of emerging African American leaders making a difference in society.
